I designed this series of False Idol plaques after making and selling several large fan art plaques, first through art galleries and later at comic conventions. Devils and demons have always been a favorite topic of mine, but I’d recently seen a couple of art exhibits on the folk costumes of the Northwestern US and Southern Africa and I loved how they use exaggerated features and bold, geometric patterns to resemble natural objects or animals.

False Idol I Plaque was laser cut on multi-layered birch wood, hand painted with wood stain and acrylic paint, and fringed with dry straw and a vintage wooden bead. Plaque measured 13.25" width x 7.3" height
