FLIGHT PLAQUE
I created this plaque for QPop’s Vintage Showa Era Tribute group show in 2016. I was looking for ways to push laser cut wood in new and interesting directions when I rediscovered Unico. It was a movie I had seen and enjoyed as a very little girl, but then largely forgotten. Even though it’s a relatively cheap movie, I appreciated Tezuka’s clever designs and decided to try and depict them in wood.
Flight Plaque was laser cut on multi-layered birch wood and hand painted with acrylic and oil paints. Plaque measured 24.6 in wide x 10 in tall x .75 in thick.
